Background: The Basic Premise and Briar’s main wiki page

While the books and the animated series are supposed to be in the same continuity, there are points that do not match up or expand where one side of the canon does not. Therefore to get a better picture of both Briar Beauty and the world she is from, her prequel short story, the first two main books and the second, third and fourth animated specials will be referenced. The animated series is more of a slice of fairy tale life but the specials are where the story arcs take off.

The main events I have lined up as follows:
Briar’s Story: Days before the new school year, Briar realizes her jewlery has gone missing. Thanks to some narcoleptic episodes through the day and her sleep-activated sharp sense of hearing, she discovers her 8 younger brothers took them for their game. Rather than be angry at them, she instead joined them in their game.

The Storybook of Legends : This is the year Briar and her friends participate in Legacy Day, the school tradition of signing their page in the Storybook of Legends artifact that magically binds them to their storybook destiny. All doesn’t go as planned when Raven Queen, daughter of the Evil Queen, refuses to sign and even tears out her page. The student body becomes split between the Royals who believe in destiny and the Rebels who desire choice. Briar is often seen comforting Apple White, who becomes the leader of the Royals.

The Unfairest of Them All: The school is still reeling from the events of Legacy Day and tension is at an all time high. On the event called Yester Day, students visit alumni of the school for insight of their future and the results are rather mixed for some of them, including Briar. When a raid led by some Rebel students in the treasury goes awry, the Jabberwock is accidentally released. The accused student responsible for this, Madeline Hatter, is set to be banished but Raven and Apple search for items for an Irrefutable Evidence spell to prove her innocence. Briar has a hand in helping Apple obtain one of the items. Madeline was proven innocent thanks to the spell and an escape attempt by the Evil Queen was also thwarted.

True Hearts Day: C.A. Cupid stumbles upon a forgotten holiday known as True Hearts Day and seeks out Briar to help plan a dance. However, Headmaster Grimm disapproves of the lost holiday as it would be contradictory to the traditions of the school. This doesn’t stop the daughter of Sleeping Beauty and residential party planner from throwing an underground dance however. While Briar is not shown giving the symbolic flower of True Hearts Day to anyone, it is a moment amongst the students where they had a ceasefire and mended relationships.

Thronecoming: Thronecoming (a word play on Homecoming) is nearing and the school prepares itself. The students are lead to Heritage Hall, a special building that appears only during Thronecoming, and receive their gifts from their parents. Briar receives a neck supporting pillow, which only reminds her she must sleep for a hundred years. When she hears the sudden announcement of Raven signing the Storybook of Legends, Briar is crushed. While Apple gushes about getting the happily ever after she wanted, Briar called her out on her insensitivity to those who don’t have it as easy. Despite her hesitation in finding the real Storybook of Legends, she follows her friends and even saves Apple from being stuck in the story of Sleeping Beauty. As the night of Thronecoming went on, Briar discovers the real Storybook of Legends hidden in her dorm room. Unable to accept her role as Sleeping Beauty, she throws the book down the wishing well, where it lands in Wonderland.

Spring Unsprung: Briar particpated in the Spring Fairest as one of the Fairest Five, modeling spring-inspired Wonderlandian fashion. To her dismay, two citizens from Wonderland announce they have found the Storybook of Legends. While it turned out to be a fake, it brought chaos to the fair as anyone who read a passage from the cursed book became their opposite counterpart. Briar helped along the rest of her friends to break the curse on their friends and their world. At the end of the day, the world of Ever After is saved but the fate of the Storybook of Legends is left hanging.

Personality:
It's easy to assume Briar Beauty to be a stereotypical princess: pink is one of her main colors, one of her courses involves mastering the skills a damsel in distress must have, and her central motif is roses. She may be destined to sleep for a hundred years, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to waste her time until then doing nothing. Her motto is YOLOUAT, or “You only live once upon a time.”

She maybe a narcoleptic, but she doesn’t let that stop her from living her life to the fullest. Not only is she part of the student council, she’s the resident party planner of the school and participant in hextreme sports. In one case where a notorious difficult test has the entire class panicked, Briar was the one to organize a study-party so effective in both entertaining and key for the class to pass. There is no stopping this princess.

Family and friends are another thing she holds dear. Briar has to contend with 8 little brothers, a mother who suffers narcoleptic slips as an aftereffect of her famous curse, and a father overly eager to play the hero. While her brothers can annoy her with their antics, she still finds time to play with them. Briar is a social butterfly at school and always checks to see how her friends are doing. She provides support to Apple White as she struggles to convince Raven Queen to sign the book. However, she’s not always about giving buttpatts. It’s Briar who calls Apple out in Thronecoming about how insensitive the later was in the special when talking about happily ever afters. A poisoned apple and a kiss is a small price to pay compared to sleeping away one hundred years.

Briar is a strong-willed girl who is still trying to decide what’s right for her. Initially she sided with the Royals like majority of friends. After all, following their destiny is only natural or else they could cease to exist. Their personal feelings towards their family legacy shouldn’t be factored in. Or should it?

It’s not until Thronecoming it’s revealed she actually looked up to Raven and her decision to write her own destiny. The bold move gave her hope that maybe she could break away from the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. Raven’s sudden heel-turn crushed her and it lead Briar’s emotional downward spiral and to do the irrational by throwing the Storybook of Legends down into the Wishing Well.

Wish:
"I wish I didn’t have to follow my mother’s story."

Life at Ever After High seemed to go on as usual after the events of Spring Fairest. The Royal versus Rebel debate lingered but gone are the initial tense moments. Briar was in the middle of writing up plans for the next party up in her dorm room when a white cat-like creature approached her. Being from a world where magic and talking animals exists, it wasn't a new thing for her. What it told her stuck out however: One wish for the price of being a magical girl. For Briar, she felt it was odd this Kyuubey wasn't seeking out other Ever After High students like Raven, who had a talent in magic, or a hero like Daring Charming. (Perhaps in time Kyuubey would be back for them.) She may not know what a magical girl is at first, but any destiny that wasn't Sleeping Beauty looked good at this.

Briar is rather distraught at this point despite her cheery exterior in public. The events during the Spring Fairest were too close for comfort for her. Because of Raven Queen’s rebellious act on Legacy Day, the ceremony was abruptly cut short so not everyone was able to sign their page. She wasn’t sure if she could keep herself together if the real Storybook of Legends returned. Sleep isn’t necessarily a bad thing but for it to go on for a hundred years while time passed on without her, is too much for Briar to bear. Even with her magical sleep activated hearing ability could help her keep up to date with the times, it doesn’t change the fact everything and everyone she knew will be possibly gone by the time she wakes up. It's time she took on the offensive front.

While she could've wished for the Storybook of Legends to vanish from existence, she's not selfish enough to take away the stories of her friends who want to follow them. Instead, she simply wished to be free from her own storybook destiny. No more sleeping curse, no evil fairies, and most importantly, no fear of losing everything she held dear to time. Unfortunately for Briar, by removing herself from her story, it would have an effect on the main story of Ever After. Once the wish is granted, Briar Beauty would just simply be an ordinary girl who lives in a magical world. Her page in the Storybook of Legends will vanish and the story of Sleeping Beauty falls into obscurity until another can carry the legacy. She'll still be around physically, but since she's no longer tied to a story, she can't really be an official student of Ever After High. Friends and family may have past memories of Briar, but they now believe she went suddenly vanished and wouldn't recognize if even if she's right in front of their face. Rumors will began to spread that maybe she disappeared as a warning to anyone harboring Rebel ideas. So basically instead of having the Sleeping Beauty story control her, she just relinquished any personal control of her overall destiny and the end goal of it to another set of hands instead.

The tragic thing about her wish is she didn't have to go through Kyubey to get it granted. After the Spring Fairest special, there is one more crucial plot where Briar is among the six that go to Wonderland and the Storybook of Legends is recovered. In the end, the students realize the Storybook of Legends is too dangerous to exist or else others might hijack another's destiny. Even Apple comes to the conclusion that it's best to "shelf this book" and let the students decide what they want to do. The artifact is undone and the individual pages are absorbed into the students to symbolize a chapter to their story. All of that goes out the window now since Briar is no longer around in their eyes and with no page in the Storybook, Briar is never given full control of her destiny.

Power:
Briar will be immune to things that induce sleep as her passive power. That also means she won't have her narcolepsy that she inherited from her mother.

In the story of Sleeping Beauty, briars roses grow to protect the sleeping princess and her kingdom as time went by. The magical plants had played a defensive role for the princess. Briar may not be tied to the story anymore, but roses do still have meaning for her: beautiful but with thorns that make her not so fragile. She will be able to summon up to three large rose plants as her active power. Rather forming a barrier or some other defensive technique, they will obey Briar and be on the offensive. They can attack with their thorny branches, ensnare and restrict her target's movements, or distract with a flurry of dark pink rose petals. Being plant based however means they are naturally weak towards fire and very sharp weapons.

No longer being bound to her storybook destiny also means she will not have the obligations of playing a princess role so no more damsel in distress here. In a sense, she has become a wild rose.

Weapon: A pink and black rapier in this style but disregard the shield in the picture.

Sample:

"So this is my new chapter, huh? I wish Apple and the others were here too though."

Briar Beauty did it. Ever since Raven Queen refused to sign her name in the Storybook of Destiny on Legacy Day, a seed was planted in her mind. Maybe she didn’t have to follow her mother and the line of ancestors in the Beauty family tree. Who wants to be cursed by an evil fairy to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and fall into a hundred year sleep? Briar didn’t, that’s for sure. As time went by, that seed began to grow and gnaw at her. When she found the true Storybook of Legends, she realized she wanted nothing to do with her planned destiny if she could and threw the magical book away in the hope it could never be found. One minute she was celebrating Spring Fairest and the next, she wound up in Nyoi-cho.

"I guess it’s time to head home. Who would’ve thought have no sudden naps would be so exhausting."

It was a long first day at Nyoi-cho and Briar was bushed. With her ties to her world and fairy tale severed, this was the first time Briar didn’t have a single sleep episode. When she opened the door to the house, Briar gasped. Just like her dorm room back at Ever After High, there was a regal look to the rooms and the decor. She sat down on the black and pink couch and gave the living around a look around. As Blondie Locks would say “it was just right” but Briar would have to disagree. No little brothers causing trouble or her dorm mate, Ashlynn weren’t around for company. For all its glamour, it felt so empty at the same time. Briar let herself sink into the couch for a moment when she shot up to stand.

"Oh my fairy godmother, I know what this place needs! A party! I know I’m not the only one new here so this is hexcellent way to meet everyone! It’ll be the perfect way for everyone to get meet each other. I better get started right away!"
